Mark Shipway’s passion for all things vinous started in his teens, travelling to France on vacation, he acquired a love of French wine and gastronomy. Inspired by his experiences, he started working for a small boutique wine store specialising in the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy & Champagne. After further travel in New Zealand, he returned to the UK's University of Brighton to study viticulture and enology as well as pursuing the WSET Diploma in Wines & Spirits (which he passed in 1999 with Distinction grade). Since graduating, Mark has explored a variety of roles in the wine industry including a stage as a buyer’s assistant at leading UK supermarket, Waitrose Ltd; several years in the sales and marketing  department with top retailer Direct Wines; as a wine steward in South Africa at Stellenbosch's Delheims and Stellenzicht wine estates. In 2005, Mark moved to Vancouver, Canada where he has spent the last 13 years living and working as a wine educator. He currently teaches both the Wine Scholar Guild & WSET programs to Diploma level. In 2017 he passed the Court of Master Sommeliers’ Advanced Sommelier designation and is currently preparing to sit the Master Sommelier in 2019.
