The Greg King Scholarship at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts

Greg King was a 22-year-old with a huge passion for cooking, he knew at age 10 that was what he wanted to do.  His dream was to follow this passion through his life and eventually own his own restaurant. Greg had wanted to attend Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts; sadly, Greg passed away August 2014 in a car accident and was unable to fulfill his dream.

In conjunction with the BC Hospitality Foundation and Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, the King Family is pleased to offer this exclusive $1,500 scholarship!

Greg's former colleague and friend had this to say about him:

"Greg had pride in his work, he loved cooking and you could see the passion in his eyes to become a top chef one day.  Greg had big dreams, big hopes.  His plan was to go back to school and get his Red Seal to be able to work anywhere around the world.  Greg respected everyone in his kitchen and looked up to his peers.  Greg loved to make food from scratch and have everyone try it.  He enjoyed making sure his friends and family were well fed at work and at home. Greg put a lot of hard work into transforming his food into art.

Knowing that Greg is looking over me as I work today, I often think of how he would do something or what he would say to me to be the best I can be at my job.  I know Greg would be very proud of me today as I learned from the best.  I feel so blessed to have worked with him. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of him.  Greg was my best friend, my mentor, my brother, and I loved him very much.

Whoever receives this scholarship should have the same passion and hard work as my friend Greg King."

Applications for this scholarship are accepted until the end of Februaryafter which a selection committee will review and select the recipient, who will be notified in April.
