What's New at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts > Our 'Golden' Graduates
posted on December 13, 2010
When the 2010 Canadian Culinary Championship’s Gold Medal Plates Finale kicks off this February 2011 in Kelowna at least two of the eight competing Chefs will be of particular interest to our staff and faculty. PICA alumni Dan Walker (Chef & Owner of Weczeria in Saskatoon) and Andrew Fung (Executive Chef of Blackhawk Golf Course in Edmonton) have won the Saskatchewan and Alberta provincial Gold Medal Plates competitions and will be leading their individual teams in a two-day food showdown against the other province’s top Chefs, including local B.C. champion, Chef Robert Clark of C Restaurant. The winner will be crowned Canada’s Culinary Champion and with a twenty-five percent chance one of our graduates will be holding that title – we like the odds! Best of luck to both Chef Dan and Chef Andrew this February.
From the Gold Medal Plates website: Founded in 2003, the goal of Gold Medal Plates is to raise substantial funds for Canada’s high performance athletes, while celebrating Canadian excellence. Since 2004, this event has received tremendous support and accolades all across Canada, and generated a combined net total of $4.1million for Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes!
