Six Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts students competed in the BC Chefs Association 14th Annual Hot Competition Live! at the BC Foodservice Expo (April 2010). This post-secondary, culinary student competition instructed competitors to create a mussel-based dish that was not only visually appealing and appetizing, but also met the parameters of the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Health Check program.
In their heats, students were commended and presented with medals:
Bronze: Matt Garvey
Silver: Whitney Wright, Lily Liu, Clayton Bennett, Mark Gunther
Gold: Stavro Korogonas
At the conclusion of the tough two-day competition, third place overall was awarded to PICA student, Stavro Korogonas. Stavro was presented his prize cheque by BC Premier, the honourable Gordon Campbell.
